Yesterday Nelson Mandela would have celebrated his 100th birthday. In Operación Triunfo 2006 we all became ambassadors of Mandela’s foundation when we recorded the song Long Walk To Freedom (46664) together with Bono from U2 and donated the revenue. Thank you everyone involved, I’m so happy I could contribute!!
Happy Birthday, Nelson, wherever you are!

“46664 was the prison number of Nelson Mandela on Robben Island, Cape Town where he was held in captivity for 18 years. He was the 466th prisoner to be incarcerated on the island in 1964. In 2002 Mr Mandela gave his prison number 46664 to Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, who along with fellow artists Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen, was instrumental in persuading over 30 of the world’s great artists to join Nelson Mandela at an all-star concert in Cape Town in November 2003 in aid of 46664. Through radio and television coverage, the concert delivered the 46664 message to more than 2 billion people in 166 countries, the most widely distributed media event in history. Similar events have since been staged in George, South Africa, Madrid, Spain, and Tromsø, Norway.”

It was a pity, though, we never actually got to meet Bono. They sent us the backing track and his vocal takes and we recorded our part in the recording studio of the “academia” in St. Just Desvern, close to Barcelona. So there are no videos or photos showing us together.
The video I’ve used here for the song are the highlights of my 4 months in OT2006, it was a video, that was meant to be played on my final night of the show (January 11th 2007) but we where running late that night in the live broadcast and it couldn’t be aired.
So here comes a very special “Throw-Back-Thursday-Video” for me, of a time, that deeply marked my life. Much love to you all!!
